Mastering Casual Chic

At Coastal Loft, we adore casually stylish clothes. While our attire is often informal, Coastal Loft was founded on the notion that we nevertheless want to appear fashionable. When someone says casual outfit or casual wear, I’m sure many of us think jeans and t-shirt, sweats or loungewear and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with those --- hey, I’m a fan of a good pair of sweats myself LOL!
Given our modern lifestyle, many women are looking for fashion that doesn’t interfere with all we need to do. Dropping kids off at school, rushing to the office, joining a Zoom call or running to the grocery store. The term “casual dress” has evolved over the past several years to include terms like “upscale casual, “casual chic,” and “elevated casual.” Why does it work? Because it is the ideal blend of fashion and comfort.
It allows people to look good without sacrificing their comfort by combining elements of casual wear with the sophistication of more classic pieces. It is perfect for those who want to look good without being too dressed up.
In this blog, we’ll take a closer look the elevated casual style, how to accomplish it and show you ways to spice up your casual look!
The first key to dressing casually is comfort. Select pieces that are comfortable to you but also make you feel good in them.
Secondly, your clothing has to fit your body type. We have talked about this several times in our blogs. Knowing your body shape is the key to properly fitting attire. Although casual chic takes comfort into consideration, it doesn’t mean you compromise fit. Pieces that truly fit your body shape will instantly elevate your look and make you feel fabulous!
The next key is versatility. Elevated casual is all about versatile pieces: choose pieces that can be dressed up or down. For example, a chambray shirt can be worn with dress pants for a dressier look or with jeans for a more casual look. Repurpose a blazer or classic button down shirt into the perfect elevated casual outfit by cuffing the sleeves and wearing with jeans and t-shirt. Dresses or dressier pants can be casually chic by pairing with cute sneakers and a jean jacket. It sounds so basic but it truly works. I believe I’ve talked about this before but I often wear jeans and a tee with a blazer and I truly feel “pulled together”
As with all other styles, accessories are the icing on the cake. The right accessories can elevate your casual look and make it feel and look more sophisticated. Leather belts, a dressier pair of shoes or chunky jewelry are all great options. Don’t forget your bag! A statement bag adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit.
Dressing casual is a statement style in itself. It doesn’t have to be boring. Just think of casual chic as a simple and casual outfit that is kicked up a notch.
Remember it’s all about balance between looking stylish and feeling comfortable, so choose pieces that reflect your personal style and make you feel confident!
And as we always say here at Coastal Loft, 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒖𝒏𝒂𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚!
